'Evolution Worlds' (NGC) - Screens

by Rainier on Nov. 13, 2002 @ 3:26 a.m. PST

As part two of the Evolution Worlds character series, meet the enemy boss characters that Mag Launcher, Linear Cannon and company must battle in their adventure. Evolution Worlds' Battle System is an outstanding feature that offers an innovative approach to RPG combat.

During the battle, you see the order in which players will act -- represented by their faces - on the side of the screen. This looks pretty simple, but actually involves extensive calculation of analog time flow. The combat order not only represents the "order" of actions taken, but how long each action will take in the analog time flow diagram. During the battle, each action includes "disable time" where characters are recovering or unable to act, and as a result the order of subsequent actions by enemies and your party members can change. Players must read two or three actions ahead to make full use of the strategic game play. Another wonderful thing about this system is that player's don't get frustrated waiting for their turn! It creates an action game "feel" when you see the characters move and perform their incredible attack motions.

Evolution Worlds is the FIRST traditional RPG to launch on GameCube this Christmas, and combines the stories from the best-selling Dreamcast RPGs, Evolution and Evolution 2.

Eugene Leopald

Eugene is the oldest son of the 8th Empire’s leader and commands the 8th Empire Army. He is keenly interested in the ultimate artifact, Evolutia. He’s a rival more than friend, although he would love to be “friends” with Linear. Eugene does not think highly of Mag and his friends.

Carcano

Carcano is the leader of a dastardly bank of railway robbers, he is a powerful bandit known as the Red Wolf. Carcano has several special attacks, including his Wire Hook and Drill Attack. Carcano’s Bandit Henchmen are also formidable opponents with their Killer Punch and Relax attacks. Later in Evolution Worlds, Carcano experiences a change of heart and offers to help Mag (players can choose Carcano to join their party at this time).

Storm Bird

The Storm Bird is a tough Boss Enemy, and attacks with wind attacks – Wind Breath and Gust -- that cause damage to the entire party.

Yurka

Yurka is one of the toughest enemies, his skills include the powerful Natural Disaster that causes damage to each team member. He can also use the Absorb Life skill that drains a character’s health and gives it to him. Linear is mysteriously drawn to Yurka, as they share a secret bond, which neither is aware of.

Blocker

Blocker is tougher than Storm Bird, but most of his attacks focus on a single character rather than hitting the whole team. It can blind characters using its Smoke Bomb attack. Blocker’s other special attacks, include Chest Beam and Spiral Upper.

Ulticannon

The final battle -- Ulticannon has a ton of HP, powerful attacks, and no sense of mercy. Ulticannon has a lot of attacks that target the entire party. Ulticannon’s Temptation to Sleep skill is devastating. Other special attacks, include Sublimation of Humanity, Gravity Free, Return to Nothingness and Life-Weakening Beam.
