New Look 'ECTS' Revealed

by Rainier on March 7, 2002 @ 7:16 p.m. PST

CMP Europe Ltd. unveiled a new-style ECTS today. The move, which will see a range of brilliant new features, incentives and facilities being added to the show, has come in response to valuable industry feedback generated through independent research.

  • Consumer Access
In a radical and exciting change to the show’s format, consumers will be invited to attend ECTS this year, the first time in its 14-year history. The move will ensure that exhibitors who want to target consumers as well as trade are given the maximum return on their exhibition budgets.
Andy Lane, event director, said: “We’ve always said that ECTS is a trade-only event, because that’s what the industry wanted. But now it’s clear to us that part of the industry is ready to bring the consumer into ECTS. The technology at ExCeL enables us to have consumer halls sitting alongside trade-only halls easily and efficiently. ECTS will now benefit from the buzz of a consumer event whilst still retaining its core values as Europe’s premier trade event for the interactive community.”
  • VIP Retail Lounge
One of ECTS’s major focuses will continue to be retail. While only a few European retailers can afford to travel to E3, the majority attends ECTS year in, year out giving European publishers, distributors and hardware suppliers the best opportunity to show their products and services off to the trade.
This year, CMP will make the show even more attractive to major retailers – particularly those coming from outside of the UK – with a VIP Retail Lounge and major travel and accommodation incentives.
  • National Pavilions
Reflecting the show’s truly European focus, ECTS will host four National Pavilions this year to provide a place for visitors from France, Italy, Germany and Scandinavia to meet and greet fellow colleagues.
  • Keynote Seminars
All ECTS 2002 badge holders will gain free entry to a series of fascinating interactive entertainment seminars with a number of high profile keynote speakers covering hardware, software and the direction of the industry in general.

These are just the new additions to this year’s show. The following features will continue to help make ECTS the one and only truly European interactive entertainment expo to attend.

  • Developers Area
In its third year at ECTS, the popular Developers Area continues to expand, providing a dedicated focal point for the European development community, with over 6000 developers attending ECTS last year. Game Developers Conference Europe is held at ExCeL on the two days prior to ECTS. After a resounding launch last year, CMP expects the event to prove even more popular in 2002.
  • ECTS Awards
This will be the fourth year the ECTS Awards ceremony has taken place on the show floor, watched by over 500 anxious faces. Over 1.7 million people take part in the voting process with the winners receiving extensive media coverage in 10 European countries.
“We’ve looked at the event from top to bottom and taken on board all the comments that people have made,” added Andy Lane. “It’s impossible to come up with an event that everyone will be 100 per cent happy with, but we’re confident this is as close as you could possibly get and that ECTS 2002 will be the industry event everyone has been asking for.”

ECTS takes place between 1 – 3 September 2002 at ExCeL, London, UK.
