Obsessive Queuer Set To Smash World Record

by Rainier on July 15, 2002 @ 6:30 p.m. PDT

Thursday 18th July 2002, sees the start of a record-breaking attempt by obsessive queuer, Jason Read who is set to place himself in the record books for the longest time anyone has ever queued for a computer game.

Read, 25, is attempting to make the world record by a massive 20 days by queuing outside computer games shop, Electronics Boutique, 100 Oxford Street, London W1.

A keen computer gamer, Read will spend 50 days queuing to get hold of a copy of a new computer game, Turok Evolution, which hits the stores on 6th September.

Read says, "I've been a huge fan of the Turok series and was excited to see that a fourth game is being released later in the year. This gave me the perfect excuse to make my record-breaking queuing attempt and I'm fully committed to going all the way."

In an attempt to break the record, the eccentric Read will be equipped with a state of the art tent, with a TV and games console, powered by a generator, courtesy of Acclaim Entertainment, makers of Turok Evolution.

Says PR Manager, Shaun White, "When we heard about Jason's attempt to get into the record books by queuing for one of our games, we felt that we had to support him and sincerely hope that by providing him with some of our other games, the next 50 days will fly by."
