'Cold War' Is Announced - Screens

by Rainier on July 23, 2002 @ 6:41 p.m. PDT

Cold War follows the story of Matt Carter, a freelance journalist, who finds himself in the midst of an international conspiracy that aims to control the U.S.S.R. Twelve hours after arriving in Moscow for a routine story, Carter has been stripped of all his possessions, beaten unconscious and thrown into the KGB's political prison. Using only recovered weapons and improvised gadgets, he must now evade or overcome elite Soviet forces and defeat the conspiracy before he is sent to a Siberian prison camp or killed.

Chaser Jones, a journalist for a large American newspaper, is as much a newsman as Indiana Jones is an archeologist. Part bloodhound, investigative journalist, war correspondent and adventurer, Chaser always winds up in the middle of the action, putting his life on the line to grab the 'scoop' before it grabs him.

This time, on the trail of a hot story, Chaser arrives right in the middle of the communist USSR at the height of the Cold War.

While there, he comes across a plot to sabotage the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, but soon discovers that Chernobyl is just the beginning. He's on the trail of a far-reaching conspiracy, which might be too much for one journalist to handle.

During his dangerous adventures, Chaser has to draw on all his abilities and experience gained during previous assignments. Among them, stealth plays a leading role: Chaser is able to move quietly and furtively, he can slip behind enemies unnoticed, ducks for cover behind various objects, hides in the shadows. He knows how to disable alarms, pick locks or confound security cameras. When he gets into a tight spot he's good with his gun, though he'd much rather try avoiding and outsmarting the enemy than come face to face with them.

Chaser's investigations take him to places such as Chernobyl and Baikonur, where he must summon all his strength, not just to get his scoop, but merely to survive.
