GarageGames Announces IndieGamesCon '02

by Rainier on Sept. 26, 2002 @ 5:56 p.m. PDT

GarageGames, the online developer community and indie games publisher, has announced the first Independent Games Conference. IndieGamesCon '02 (IGC - www.indiegamescon.com) will be held this fall November 1, 2 & 3. IndieGamesCon will be an informal and informative gathering of independent developers from around the world. The conference will providing an unprecedented opportunity for independent developers, professional guest developers, hardware manufactures as well as the GarageGames staff to exchange ideas and promote independent gaming.

Jeff Tunnell reflects on the inspiration for IGC. "After meeting with several GarageGamers at the 2002 Game Developers Conference we realized that a conference aimed at the specific needs of indies is needed. GDC has grown too big and too expensive. We need to get back to our roots of talking about game development, and especially the needs of the small, under-funded indie developer."

IndieGamesCon welcomes programmers, artists, entrepreneurs and others in the independent gaming community, to this event, which offers an extraordinary opportunity for networking, team building and peer review. Cost is $150 and includes all conference activities as well as food and drink for the three-day event. Space will be limited to ensure an intimate and candid environment. "We wanted this event to have a very strong sense of community and collaboration, and as we make plans for larger events in the coming years we want that to be a hallmark of IGC," comments Rick Overman, co-founder of GarageGames. In addition to hosting a having a LAN Party Saturday night, the event will include presentations, roundtable discussions and a ShowOFF Center for developers and sponsors.

Current sponsors include nVIDIA, Creative Labs, CyPR Media, Max Gaming Network and The Wild Duck Restaurant & Brewery, home of the official GarageGames beer Spank Dog Ale.
