Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Scores Big At the ECTS

by Rainier on Sept. 4, 2002 @ 9:36 p.m. PDT

With one of the most outstanding games of 2002, Ubi Soft is ready to lead the stealth action genre – one of the major categories of video games. Straight from Ubi Soft’s development studio in Montreal, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell adds a new award to its long list after being named Overall Best Game of ECTS 2002 - Europe’s premier trade show for interactive entertainment, before all console products.

“The game is still winning great praise wherever it is showed. This latest award confirms our conviction that we have created the game that will strike the world of video games. It also illustrates the relevancy of our long term strategy of in-house development for games with a worldwide scope”, said Alain Corre, Ubi Soft’s Managing Director for Europe, Asia Pacific and South America. “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell is poised to establish the new reference of action games.”

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell is a third person stealth action game featuring cyber-terrorism, shadow agencies, and covert operations, and is set in the realistic, highly detailed geopolitical universe as portrayed by Tom Clancy. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell will grant players access to the highest echelons of national security, where shadowy operatives have the freedom to do whatever it takes to safeguard America. In Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, the player controls Sam Fisher, a field operative of a secretive "black-ops" NSA sub-agency called Third Echelon. Sam Fisher is geared up to infiltrate high-security strongholds, seize critical intelligence, destroy threatening data and neutralise the enemy - all without leaving a trace. Developed by Ubi Soft's Montreal Studio in Canada, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell is a unique experience that will have the player thinly skate on the fine line that separates fact from fiction.

The Xbox and PC versions will be released in time for Christmas.
