'Priest' Is Coming To North America

by Rainier on April 9, 2003 @ 12:43 a.m. PDT

Priest is a multiplayer, head-to-head combat game that introduces controversial themes in a Wild West setting.

Priest is an MMOG set in a twisted Lovecraftian vision of the American Wild West. Cast out centuries ago with 12 of his brethren for rising up against God, the fallen archangel Temozarela has discovered that control of 12 sacred sites will allow him to perform a ritual that will give him the power to storm the gates of Heaven. Players will have to decide whether to join an army of the fallen or the soldiers of goodness.

JC Entertainment's massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) and a horror-action PC title, Priest, is coming to North America.

It is an action-horror RPG that creates a grim and gruesome ambiance while providing a healthy dose of gory, violent action. In a departure from the scores of medieval fantasy games, Priest is set in the midst of a lost land of the American Wild Western Frontier. Priest follows the trials of Ivan Isaacs, a disillusioned former priest who sold his soul to battle the evil fallen archangel, Temozarela. Combining elements of both classic simulation and action games, Priest introduces a unique player vs. player/NPC structure and item/pet fusion system to create an FPS-like role-playing game in an entirely new genre.

The English version of Priest is due in the second half of 2003. The game's class system is divided among the two main factions: The Heretics and Templers, which are divided between eight different character types, each with their own fighting techniques, upgrade trees and skills such as spiritual attacks and exorcisms. Players can slaughter innocents or execute the damned in single player, player vs. player and team faction vs. faction combat across a world of more than 48 different environments. Faction vs. faction warfare revolves around possession of the 12 sacred sites that bestow special bonuses on the faction that controls them.

The first public North American demonstration of the game will be at this year's E3 in Los Angeles, May 14-16th.
