'Bookworm' and 'Bejeweled' (GBA) Announced

by Rainier on Jan. 29, 2004 @ 12:40 p.m. PST

Majesco Sales Inc. today announced plans to publish Bookworm and Bejeweled, two of the Internet's most downloaded games of all time, for Nintendo Game Boy Advance. Both highly addictive puzzle titles are scheduled for release in 2004. Read more for details ...

"Majesco continues to identify sources for innovative products, and the Internet has grown into a proving ground for games, resulting in products with a firmly established consumer base and a wide demographic of players," said Ken Gold, Vice President of Marketing for Majesco. "We are pleased to have the opportunity to offer fans a new portable way to experience Bookworm and Bejeweled, as well as the chance to introduce two great titles to the Game Boy Advance audience."

In Bookworm, Lex, the lovable bookworm, is hungry and players must feed him by connecting adjacent tiles to complete words for him to eat. Larger words will award more points and special letter tiles will award bonus points. However, players must watch out for those fire tiles. If they burn their way to the bottom of the letter library, the game is over. Bookworm was created by web-game-powerhouse, Popcap Games and the Game Boy Advance version is planned for release in February. Currently, approximately 5 million people play Bookworm (a.k.a. Bespelled) each month on the various gaming sites.

Later this year Majesco will release Bejeweled, one of Popcap Games' most downloaded titles, with an average of more than 6 million people playing the online Java version each month. In Bejeweled, players swap two adjacent jewels to line up three or more of the same jewel type horizontally or vertically. Game play is simple, but super-addictive and gamers continue playing until there are no moves left to make.
