Batting Options

Half of your time in All-Star Baseball will be spent at the plate. The game now incorporates different hitting options, so each individual user can find one that is right for them.

When hitting, you have 4 different options: Timing, Zone, 2-D curser, and 3-D curser.

In all of these batting modes, the user swings by pulling back on the right thumb stick and pushing forward for the swing OR by pressing the X button (PS2).

Batting Tips

Timing hitting is strictly timing based.... watch the pitch and swing at the appropriate time. Zone hitting requires that same timing, but you need to point the left thumb stick in the direction of the incoming ball before swinging. 2-D curser batting is a flat, 2D icon, which you move to the pitch location before taking your hack. 3-D batting allows the user to control the hit type and location, much like a seasoned Major League hitter. With the right thumb stick, tilt the 3D icon up or down; rotate it left or right, and swing. 3-D batting also has the option of using the power icon, which helps you swing for the fences.

To toggle to the power swing icon, press the X button (Xbox).

The best part about the 4 different batting options is that they are all fun. Try them all and see which one works best for you.

The batter in All-Star Baseball has the option to guess what type of pitch is coming. While pulling and holding in the R trigger, select the button of the pitch type you think the pitcher will throw. Guess right and the overall size of the batting curser will get bigger, making it easier to make contact. Guess wrong and the curser shrinks...so only gamble with this option if you're ahead in the count. The pitch guess works well against 2 pitch pitchers because you have a 50% chance of guessing correctly.

There's also an option to guess the location of the pitch. While pulling and holding in the R trigger, use the directional pad to choose the area you think the pitch will be. This time, a correct guess will increase the size of your power swing batting icon. Use this with your power hitters if they are ahead in the count.
