Last month, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Pandora Tomorrow(tm) made video game history when it was featured at a special event coinciding with the 2004 Sundance Film Festival. The game was unveiled at the Motorola Lodge in an after-hours event attended by celebrities, filmmakers, entertainment executives, musicians and industry influencers. Courtesy of Ubisoft and Xbox(tm) Live, Tom Clancy' Splinter Cell® Pandora Tomorrow(tm)'s appearance at Sundance marked the first time a video game has debuted in or around a film festival.
The upcoming "Spies vs. Mercenaries" event will allow gamers in the entertainment capitals of the world, Times Square and Hollywood, play each other via online connectivity. The competition will be fierce as the single elimination tournament will produce memorable video battles and voice-chat trash-talking moments, with the contenders and the game projected in heated battle onto the Loews Cinema screens.
"The 'Spies vs. Mercenaries' event allows Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Pandora Tomorrow(tm) to go from the sneak preview event in Sundance to full-on movie theatre premiere status in New York and LA," said Tony Kee, vice president of marketing for Ubisoft. "Video game fans can come to the theatre, pick up some popcorn and a game controller and get their game on, while watching select winners play against contestants on the other side of the country. The 'future' of interactive entertainment is officially here."
"We're incredibly thrilled to see the next installment of Tom Clancy's epic blockbuster premiere on Xbox," said Cameron Ferroni, General Manager for Microsoft Xbox Platform Team. "While Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow makes waves with its unbelievably advanced and creative gameplay, now Xbox Live brings that unique style to a thriving community of 750,000 rabid online gamers across 19 countries."
Published by Ubisoft(tm), one of the world's largest videogame publishers, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow is already one of the most talked about videogames of 2004, recently featured on MTV, CNN and Extra!. The game will be released in late March.
