'Fear Effect' Gets Movie Deal

by Rainier on Feb. 4, 2004 @ 2:25 a.m. PST

Eidos announces it has optioned the film and television rights to its sexy and action-packed video game franchise Fear Effect to producer and director Uwe Boll and his production company, BollKG. Continuing Eidos' success in transitioning game content to film, the Fear Effect deal follows in the footsteps of bringing the hugely popular Tomb Raider video game to the big screen via Paramount Pictures. Additionally, Eidos optioned the multi-award-winning game Deus Ex to Columbia Pictures and producer Laura Zisken in 2002.

"We are excited to continue our success of extending our original IP to film," says Paul Baldwin, vice president of marketing at Eidos. "Tomb Raider was highly successful, as will be Deus Ex, and we look forward to Fear Effect continuing this trend."

"Fear Effect is a fantastic game with a dark story. I want to create an action film in the vein of Charlie's Angels but portray its sexy heroines Hana and Rain in a much edgier fashion," says Uwe Boll.

Uwe Boll's credits include: "House of the Dead," based on the Sega video game, which was released by Artisan Entertainment on 10th October 2003. Boll also produced and directed the upcoming movie "Alone in the Dark," based on the Atari video game. Starring Christian Slater and Tara Reid, the "Alone in the Dark" film is slated for a summer 2004 release.

The Fear Effect action-adventure games star two very sexy and intelligent heroines, Hana and Rain. The Fear Effect games are well-known for their gorgeous anime-style graphics and intense gameplay experience - balancing hard-hitting action, an engrossing storyline and challenging puzzles.
