Perception To Develop 'Stargate SG-1'

JoWooD Productions Software AG will handle worldwide publishing and marketing of videogames based on MGM Television's hit science-fiction series, "Stargate SG-1." As part of the agreement, Australian developer Perception PTY Ltd. will develop videogames based on the current TV series "Stargate SG-1," and any spin-off series such as the upcoming "Stargate: Atlantis." Perception PTY licensed the rights to develop "Stargate SG-1" videogames from MGM Interactive, a unit of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Inc.

"Stargate SG-1" is one of television's best-known science-fiction properties, garnering the genre's best ratings in the United States as the No. 1 series on the Sci Fi Channel. It is broadcast in more than 60 other countries as well. Its popularity also has fueled a successful series of DVD releases of the show's episodes.

"'Stargate SG-1' is the first series of games we're announcing as part of our agreement with JoWooD," said Ben Lenzo, Perception's Managing Director.

"'Stargate SG-1' enjoys phenomenal devotion from viewers around the globe and we expect the game to appeal to those faithful viewers and the gaming market as a whole. We think 'Stargate SG-1' is a perfect premise for great games. We'll be announcing more details about the specifics of our first Stargate game in coming months."

JoWooD CEO Andreas Tobler said, "'Stargate SG-1' is perfectly tailored for translation into videogames. We are proud to work with Perception and MGM Interactive on such a big franchise. 'Stargate SG-1' is one of the most popular science-fiction TV series worldwide, and its story and surroundings fit perfectly with the videogame audience. Together with Perception and MGM Interactive, our goal is to translate the success of the TV series to the game industry."

MGM Interactive's Neil Haldar said Perception is a particularly good choice as the developer of an important MGM franchise.

"The high level of passion and creative energy they bring to game production is well matched by JoWooD's keen appreciation for the strength of the 'Stargate SG-1' universe and its viewership," said Haldar, MGM Interactive's Vice President, Production and Business Development. "We look forward to a successful collaboration that will bring forward a series of game titles that match the power and quality of the franchise."
