'KnightBlade: Final Flight' Announced - Screens

by Rainier on March 9, 2004 @ 9:26 a.m. PST

KnightBlade: Final Flight is a combat action game which follows the battle hardened crew of the GCV-KnightBlade, a Terran Military Megaron class carrier, into hostile territory. Commanded by April Gage, the KnightBlade is sent to a remote region of space to assist in the extraction of friendly forces caught behind enemy lines. Read more for details ...

Ambushed en-route, betrayed, boarded by hostiles, faced with on board sabotage, incredible odds and eventually lost in space, April Gage finds herself fighting for the very survival of her ship and crew as a standard extraction mission goes horribly wrong. The long journey home becomes a battle for survival.

The game world includes space and planetary regions, cities, bases and stations to explore. It also takes place in first person mode - even inside the massive carrier. In various missions which advance the storyline, gamers will be able to fly the carrier's fighters and shuttles, deploy and drive vehicles on planets as well as engage in first person combat either inside the carrier or on planets with a variety of weapons of mass destruction. With access to all decks of the carrier in first person mode, the player is able to perform various actions even as the carrier hurtles through space with the flight officer at the helm and taking interactive commands from the player and other crew members.

Featuring a fully modeled ship crew, the completion of some missions relies on the existence of certain crew members in order to advance the storyline. For example, deploying on an away mission with a team of carrier based marines without the combat officer, results in low morale and largely ineffective combat tactics by the marines - all of which could possibly lead to a botched mission.

In production since Summer 2003 and powered by 3000AD technologies as well as a licensed third party graphics engine, KnightBlade aims to blend tense combat action with a tight mission based storyline geared toward gamers looking for an all encompassing experience. All of this takes place in a dynamic and persistent world in which the player is able to explore and face new challenges long after the storyline ends.

KnightBlade is being developed for the Xbox console and is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2005 at an SRP of $49.99. It is likely that a PC version will follow the Xbox release.
