by Rainier on June 20, 2005 @ 6:30 p.m. PDT

Anchor Bay Entertainment announced today its entrance into the Universal Media Disc (UMD) marketplace with six popular films. On August 23rd, the company will release Halloween, Evil Dead, Time Bandits, Blood the Last Vampire as well as Manga Entertainment’s Ghost in the Shell and Ninja Scroll on UMD. Each film will carry a suggested retail price of $19.98.

“The format has done well in its early stages,” commented Ray Gagnon, Sr. Vice President Sales for Anchor Bay Entertainment. “Our demographics match up very nicely with those of the PSP adapter and as such, we are confident our films will be successful on the UMD format. This slate is only the beginning from our company.”

All of the titles in the first release launch are noted for their strong and consistent sales. Both Halloween and Evil Dead are annual best-sellers.

Anchor Bay Entertainment offers an expansive selection of award-winning, notable theatrical films including “Time Bandits” and “Halloween,” classic television programming such as “Three’s Company,” “Highlander” and much of the Stephen J. Cannell library, traditional children’s fare featuring the ever-popular Thomas & Friends collection and Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, the impressive Manga anime line and chart-topping fitness titles including the "Crunch" and "For Dummies" series. Anchor Bay Entertainment, along with its co-owned sister companies, Film Roman Inc., Mainframe Entertainment Inc. and DKP Studios, is aggressively developing a wide range of original programs and concepts in addition to licensing existing brands and films.
