by Rainier on July 11, 2006 @ 2:43 p.m. PDT

Another day, another batch of games shipped to stores. Instead of giving them all their own posts, we grouped them, and so far there are announcements for:

The Ship (PC)

The Ship, a massively mysterious thriller (MMT) from Outerlight Ltd, is available now via Steam, Valve's electronic distribution platform. Set onboard a 1920's luxury liner, Mr X, the Ship's owner has "invited" you to a mysterious multiplayer game of hunt and hunted, as players must secretly track and extinguish specified passengers while avoiding similar fate. The ship is available for just $19.95. Click here for more details.

Prey (X360/PC)

Developed by Human Head Studios and created and produced by 3D Realms, Prey is available for Xbox 360 and PC in both regular and Limited Collector's editions.

A groundbreaking first-person shooter, Prey raises the bar and turns the genre upside-down with awesome new gameplay features and next generation graphics. Breaking the traditional first-person shooter format, Prey introduces innovative gameplay elements including wall-walking, portals, spirit-walking and gravity flipping, making it one of the most anticipated games of 2006. Players can enhance the experience with multi-player options that include eight player deathmatch that will have both hearts and trigger fingers racing.

"Prey revitalizes the first-person shooter genre with a new dimension of features including portal tactics and 360 degrees of gravity manipulating combat in an aggressive living environment," said Christoph Hartmann, President, 2K. "Prey is this summer's definitive next generation game."

Prey tells the story of Tommy, a Cherokee garage mechanic stuck on a reservation and going nowhere. His life changes when an otherworldly crisis forces him to awaken spiritual powers from his long-forgotten birthright. Abducted along with his people to a menacing mothership orbiting Earth, he sets out to save himself and his girlfriend and ultimately his planet.

A Limited Collector's Edition is also available, which includes pewter figurines of Tommy and Hunter, the Art of Prey illustrated booklet, a free soundtrack download and more. Players can also sample Prey with a free demo available for PC at major gaming and download sites, and for Xbox 360 on Xbox Live Marketplace.

Prey is now available in stores across North America and will be available at stores in Europe on July 14.

Chromehounds (X360)

Developed by FromSoftware, Chromehounds is the first squad-based mech-combat game available for the Xbox 360. Players will join squads of up to 20 players and take to the battlefield via Xbox Live® online entertainment network. With unprecedented options for customizing your war machine, 13 multiplayer modes, and an enthralling single-player story mode, Chromehounds brings explosive mech action to an all new level.

Chromehounds allows players to create and customize their own massive war machines known as Hounds and take them into battle in an effort to achieve global supremacy amidst a raging near-future conflict. Taking full advantage of the Xbox 360 Live technology, Chromehounds allows for expanded squad-based rankings and many persistent world features including updates on border status, news reports from the frontlines, tracking squad finances and experience points, as well as special lotteries and elections. Players will be able to log onto the official Chromehounds Web Site at www.chromehounds.com to track scores, view leader boards, and more.

“Chromehounds sets the standard for squad-based mech shooters on the Xbox 360,” said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. “Specifically designed with Xbox Live in mind, Chromehounds delivers a robust multiplayer experience packed with unprecedented customization options and both tactical and strategic gameplay.”

The game takes place in an alternate future where the Cold War never ended. The player takes on the role of a mercenary who has traveled to the center of the conflict, a fictional Eastern European region known as Neroimus, where he earns a fortune in combat fighting for the highest bidder. Players will be able to choose and customize from six different types of Hounds – Scout, Soldier, Sniper, Defender, Heavy Gunner, and Tactics Commander – each complete with different skills and capabilities on the battlefield.

Rated “T” for Teen by the Entertainment Software Review Board, Chromehounds for the Xbox 360 is available at retailers nationwide for an MSRP of $59.99.
