The Adventure Company Signs 'HCA: The Ugly Prince Duckling'

by Rainier on Feb. 22, 2007 @ 2:54 p.m. PST

The Ugly Prince Duckling is a 3rd person adventure/action game in which you control the 14 year old H.C. Anderson, taking place in the Copenhagen of the Golden Age around 1820. The game is inspired by HCA's famous fairytale universe but is primarily based on HCA's own life story in his pursuit of fame and success as an artist.

Your job is to help HCA save the princess who has been enchanted by the evil troll who. Slowly, an evil shadow is spreading darkness and decease by the sinister Mr. Schwartz who is the evil troll in disguise. The only way to save the day is to find the Tinderbox and bring light back to the streets and keep the princess alive.

The narrow streets are swarming with men and beast. Open gutters are overflowing with filth and disease flourishes. Success is at the mercy of having social status and earning the friendship or respect of the High Society. Interaction with as many people as possible as well as making the right friends is important - and a lot of fun!

The game begins with the young Hans, aged 14 trying to find work in Copenhagen around 1820 (the height of its golden age). With no money and a low social standing, his options are limited but he soon finds an opening with a tailor, who sets him on an adventurous quest.

The social gameplay element comes into it's own here. Hans is limited in who he can speak to and where he can go by his social standing. Through skill and wit, he must climb the social ladder and open up new and interesting avenues on his quest. He also finds his ultimate calling (in true fairytale fashion) to rescue the rebellious princess who has been kidnapped by the evil troll, Mr Schwartz. Schwartz is unleashing darkness uopn the Danish kingdom and Hans must act soon to save the prince and find the magic tinderbox that can reverese the encroaching evil.
