"GarageGames' Torque Game Engine has streamlined our development processes and enabled our teams in the pursuit of our core goal: creating the innovative gameplay that gamers want," said Joel DeYoung, Chief Operating Officer of Hothead Games. "Torque gives our programmers a +6 dagger of coding," he said before adding, "They tell me its pretty sweet."
Under the agreement, Hothead will use Torque for both PC and game console titles, including the highly anticipated episodic comic Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness. Any improvements Hothead makes to the Torque engine or tools will be shared back into the main code base for the benefit of all Torque users.
Josh Williams, CEO and CTO of GarageGames, said the relationship with Hothead was a natural fit for GarageGames. "We couldn’t be happier to be partnered with Hothead and Penny Arcade. Like practically everyone in the known universe, we’re huge Penny Arcade fans, and Hothead is exactly the kind of developer we love working with-- they’re passionate, dedicated, extremely talented, and are taking intelligent approaches to digital distribution and episodic content. Hothead’s involvement in the ever- growing GarageGames developer network is a boon to our entire community of game makers and players," said Williams.
