'Vampire Story' Now Known As 'Vampire World' - Screens

by Rainier on March 8, 2007 @ 10:33 a.m. PST

Mayhem Studios has renamed its title to Vampire World, in order to not be confused with A Vampyre Story. Vampire World is a combination of the RPG and adventure genres. You're an adventurer living amongst the dead and investigating a creepy murder that even the vampires themselves seem to avoid.

Vampire World is a combination of the role-playing game (RPG) and adventure genres. Its storyline will take the player into the dark corners of an old dockyard. The main character is Bernard – an adventurer living in the company of the undead for years. The story starts to unfold as a mysterious murder, apparently without a motive, takes place on one of the dockyard’s piers. Even the vampires themselves seem to avoid the crime scene. As Bernard starts his investigation, events begin to get scary.

The project is based on the original Mayhem Studios game engine which was developed in the course of five years. This engine offers support for a variety of up-to-date features and its functionality is not far behind the top commercial game engines. However, focus was placed in the first place on the atmosphere and gaming experience. “When developing Vampire World our aim was to present the adventure/RPG concept in a new atypical way, with the help of stylized dark setting of a world filled with vampires,” said PhDr. Tomáš Bencík, the CEO of Mayhem Studios.

Vampire World is the most demanding project in the nine-year history of Mayhem Studios. It offers solid technological elaboration, enjoyable surroundings and enhanced play quality. “In the past, we’ve gained experience with the PRG genre through our commercially successful game Neverend. This enabled us to learn and expand our possibilities and to improve the game concept.” adds Tomáš Bencík. Game controls were under constant improvement during the development process so the final version will contain two separate schemes of controls: a classical console-style system and fully PC-adapted system utilizing the mouse. Also the adventure part of the game was finely tuned in order to move the storyline forward instead of slowing down the pace of game-play.

Vampire World will be released world-wide in summer 2007.
