Adult Swim travelled to Africa to hand pick songs for African Swim and to meet featured artists like Jozi, Gumshev and Maggz face-to-face. African Swim will also feature interviews and performances that will be available for view at adultswim.com that will highlight the inspiration and talent behind the innovative music. In addition, there will be a free gameplay demo and an exclusive inside look at the making of the highly anticipated first-person shooter game Ubisoft's Far Cry 2, also set in Africa and scheduled to release October 21, 2008.
"Adult Swim is constantly on the lookout for great new music, and this year we jumped at the chance to introduce our fans to a music sampling from Africa where hip-hop is a vital force and a growing genre of music. African Swim is a collection of the best songs that we brought back from the Motherland,? said African Swim creative director Jason DeMarco.
Jason DeMarco has been at the forefront of Adult Swim's free online albums, like Warm and Scratchy, Chocolate Swim and Ghostly Swim. DeMarco is also creative director of promotions for both Adult Swim and Cartoon Network and A&R for Williams St. Records.
Adult Swim has been a consistent supporter of hip-hop, collaborating with artists like Dangerdoom, Killer Mike, David Banner and Schooly D over the years. Adult Swim has put itself in the midst of forward thinking music and enthusiastically supports innovative and unknown artists from a wide range of music genres from indie rock to electronica. The late-night network first featured music from a variety of unknown artists on-air, then began promoting the music online and, eventually, through their in-house Williams St. Records label.
African Swim is Adult Swim's latest free album that will be available for download at adultswim.com, beginning Monday, Oct. 20.
