Video Game Rentals Banned in Belgium
by Rainier on Oct. 31, 2008 @ 5:07 a.m. PDT
The Belgian Entertainment Association (representing game publishers) revealed that starting Dec. 1, 2008, you will no longer be able to rent games in Belgium. While renting out video games was never legally allowed, it has been condoned for many years. The BEA managed to pass a law, in effect since Jun. 1, that new titles could no longer be rented out, but the current stock could, but only until December. Outlets like GameMania cry foul play, claiming that banning rentals will reduce business by 10%.
