Thursday, December 4, 2008 Shipping Announcements

by Rainier on Dec. 4, 2008 @ 3:29 a.m. PST

Another day, another batch of games shipped to stores. Instead of giving them all their own posts, we grouped them, and so far there are announcements for:

Mushroom Men: Rise of the Fungi (NDS)

Gamers will have the chance to experience the entire story of these tiny warriors through both titles; while each game is completely stand-alone and does not require one to play the other, both offer players the full spectrum of the mushroom universe.

“Wrapping up Mushroom Men has been one of the most satisfying endeavors this studio has ever seen,” says Dan Borth, CEO of Red Fly Studio. “From the very inception of this original IP, we’ve been working around the clock to make it one of the most spectacular third-party platformers for Wii, and we really think we’ve nailed it.”

Mushroom Men: Rise of the Fungi lets players choose from three classes of ‘shrooms - Heavy, Sage or Scout – each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Players then take up makeshift weapons to battle in defense of the peaceful Bolete and technological Morel societies. Set in a 2.5D side-scrolling action-platformer, the story takes on a perspective of three-inch tall mushrooms in a vast human landscape. Your journey will take you through the early stages of the mushroom world, as these tribes set up communities, build homes and craft weapons to defend the life they’ve so recently received. Step through mushroom history as these societies battle for their place and to save their kind from the war-like Lepiotas and Amanitas mushrooms.

Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars (Wii)

Gamers will have the chance to experience the entire story of these tiny warriors through both titles; while each game is completely stand-alone and does not require one to play the other, both offer players the full spectrum of the mushroom universe.

“Wrapping up Mushroom Men has been one of the most satisfying endeavors this studio has ever seen,” says Dan Borth, CEO of Red Fly Studio. “From the very inception of this original IP, we’ve been working around the clock to make it one of the most spectacular third-party platformers for Wii, and we really think we’ve nailed it.”

Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars takes a slightly different direction. Picking up after the Rise of the Fungi story concludes, players end up under the mushroom cap of PAX, an outcast mushroom trying to find his place in society. Set in a third-person action-platformer, PAX learns he’s different for a very good reason, uncovering new talents he never knew he had. Using the Wii Remote™ motion controls, players have PAX running, jumping, gliding and spore-powering his way through level after level of everyday scenarios from a three-inch perspective. Join him in his quest to help the Bolete and Morel tribes repel the attacks of the Lepiota and Amanita armies, all the while discovering what his role is in this wild new world.

Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek (Wii)

Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek marks the first time that the award winning series has ventured outside the PC platform and onto a major home console system, the incredibly successful Wii. By incorporating new gameplay mechanics that make the most of the Wii controls, Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek delivers a familiar yet fresh gameplay experience that can be enjoyed by the whole family in the comfort of their living room.

“We’ve been successfully developing and marketing to the core casual game player – females – for years, and it is exciting to extend our brand further into the mainstream with its first console launch,” said Megan Gaiser, President and CEO of Her Interactive Inc. “We are thrilled to partner with Sega to bring the Nancy Drew franchise to the widely adopted Wii system.”

“We are delighted to work with HER Interactive to focus on the more casual female gamer and bring such an iconic character to the Wii,” says Sean Ratcliffe, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America. “The successful Nancy Drew series on PC, and now on Wii, has demonstrated an amazing ability to bring books to life and tap into some great memories for gamers of all ages.”

In Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek, players find Nancy far from home in the middle of the Canadian Rockies where she is investigating several suspicious accidents that have occurred at Chantal’s normally cozy Icicle Creek Lodge. To make matters worse, an eerie wolf’s howl in the distance is haunting the guests at night, causing Nancy to wonder if the accidents and the mysterious wolf are connected.

Assuming the role of Nancy Drew, players embark on a mystery adventure that will tax their deductive reasoning skills as they tackle intricate puzzles and master a variety of gesture-based mini-games with the Wii Remote. Additionally, Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek lets players choose either a Junior or Senior Detective level, making it a perfect game for players of all skill levels.

Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek is currently available at retailers nationwide, and from the Her Interactive website for a suggested retail price of $29.95.
