Known in English as Tiny Angels, Chiquititas began as a television series in Argentina and quickly inspired the creation of branded apparel, a magazine, several soundtrack albums, and a Broadway-style musical. A feature film based on the characters is scheduled for release later this year.
Being chosen as the video game development platform responsible for bringing this celebrated South American brand to Wii is another example of Emergent's worldwide service philosophy and global expansion.
Gamebryo gives Biodroid developers a considerable head start by implementing numerous Wii development features that do not typically come with standard SDKs. Loaded with rendering and animation tools, a Wii-specific viewer, extensive libraries and APIs to simplify pipeline integration, Gamebryo provides Wii teams everything they need to optimize and deliver visually stunning games on time and on budget.
"The strength and diversity of the Chiquititas brand is a natural fit for Wii. Fans of action adventure are certain to embrace this future addition to the Chiquititas universe," said Bruno Patatas, Co-Founder of, Biodroid Productions. "Gamebryo is allowing us to do things beyond what we could have imagined."
"Developing Chiquititas into a video game is a perfect example of why we created Gamebryo for the Wii. This exceptional brand has endless possibilities and building it on Gamebryo leaves the future open for continued evolution of the title," said Geoffrey Selzer, CEO of Emergent. "Gamebryo's Wii optimization enables Biodroid to focus on custom features, content and gameplay to make Chiquititas a truly unique Wii title. The flexibility of Gamebryo across genres and art styles truly highlights what we can do -- from RPGs to FPRs and from photo-real to toon-shaded games -- we facilitate everything a developer is looking for."
Chiquititas for Wii will be a third-person platform jumper with action and puzzle elements. The game, centered on a wonderful lead character that runs a home for orphans, will incorporate the optimistic plotline, lively music and colorful video from the original television series.
