'Making History: The Calm & the Storm' Gets Gold Edition

by Rainier on June 25, 2008 @ 9:29 a.m. PDT

Making History: The Calm & the Storm puts players in control of global conflict, combining a highly sophisticated AI with rich historical detail. The game is unique among WWII games in the way it challenges gamers to achieve economic and diplomatic victory, not just military success.

The GOLD version is due out this summer and will be available as a digital download through the company and its distribution partner’s websites and traditional retail outlets. The Making History: Gold Edition includes a host of new features, as well as the Making History: Game Editor, a brand new scenario focusing on Germany's rise to power, and expanded game play. Concurrent with this announcement, the price of the current version of Making History: The Calm & the Storm has been reduced to $19.99.

Making History: The Calm & the Storm Gold is a turn-based strategy game in which players apply their strategic skills to forge the fate of their chosen nation during a time of looming crisis. The game experience of Making History will appeal to strategy players who enjoy open-ended games like Axis & Allies and Civilization, The goal of the game is not to replay history as it happened, but make your own. Historical starting points for each scenario set the scene; but from there, players experience completely open-ended, dynamic gameplay. Virtually any country is playable across a variety of the bundled scenarios with the GOLD version, or the downloadable user-developed scenarios, offering endless hours of gameplay.

"Since our initial release of Making History last year, we have listened to our player community and tried to include as many of their ideas as possible", says Dave McCool, Muzzy Lane President. "Once we released the Making History Editor, our players used it to create some very creative and fun scenarios. We were so impressed with their results that some of these player-made scenarios are included in the Gold Edition."

The new "Rise of the Reich" scenario is a direct result of community feedback. "Apparently everyone likes to play the bad guy", says McCool, "So we created a scenario that starts when Germany is still weak. Players get to build up their economy and military before they can begin their quest for global domination."
