3D Gesture Technology Removes Need for Controller

3D gesture recognition software developer Softkinetic is collaborating with EA at WIRED NextFest to show off a new gesture-based gaming experience that allows users to simulate shooting a basket against a professional basketball player.

The Softkinetic/EA collaboration resulted in an new gesture-based gaming experience that allows users to simulate shooting a basket against a professional basketball player.

“We continually search for new ways to engage wider audience in gameplay through innovation,” said George Borshukov, Director of Creative R&D, EA Sports. “By using Softkinetic’s 3D gesture technology, we can remove the controller and allow the user to play a game with their own body movements. This is just one step towards a new kind of full-body gameplay which will have an important role in the future of interactive entertainment.”

The Hoops Interactive Kiosk, created by an EA Sports Creative R&D team in collaboration with Softkinetic, gives audiences a glance into what future technologies and products are possible for consumers looking for the newest interactive entertainment. Wired NextFest attendees are encouraged to try the experience at EA’s exhibit in Millennium Park.
