The early bird discount price for PAX East 2010 tickets will be gone in two weeks. One day passes are $25 (regularly $35) and three-day passes are $45 (regularly $55) until Dec. 31.
The three-day pass grants access to all events, concerts, parties, panels and free-play areas. Only "sealed deck" tournaments, which require new physical product in order to be played, have an additional fee.
This East Coast festival celebrating all things gamer is taking place at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston from Friday, March 26 – Sunday, March 28. Tens of thousands of pen-and-paper, tabletop, CCG, PC and video gamers will enjoy tournaments, free-play areas, concerts, panel discussions and an exhibitor hall filled with the latest new games.
PAX East registration can be done here, while attendees can reserve rooms here with hotels that PAX has negotiated special rates with.
The Boston Indie Showcase at PAX East will offer top Boston developers the opportunity to exhibit their best work to the gaming community on the exhibition floor – for free. The event is designed to help publicize and encourage independent game development, this time in the host city for the first PAX East.
Recognizing that indie game developers -- while often rich in passion and innovative ideas -- often struggle just to fund the production of their projects, the organizers for PAX East are giving local developers a chance to show their stuff right alongside the large publishers that will occupy big booths in the expo section of the show.
“There are lots of creative people funding development out of personal savings, loans from family and even cash advances on their credit cards just to get their game made,” said Robert Khoo of Penny Arcade. “To all of those young studios we are saying, ‘If you have a kick ass game. PAX East is going to give you the chance to promote your title to the community.’”
The application form as well as the official rules and selection info are viewable online, the deadline for entries is Jan. 15, 2009.
Entries will be judged in regard to gameplay, originality and overall fun. There is no set number of winners; the total number of participants will be based on how many “sweet” titles are submitted. Companies must be located within the metro Boston area and have fewer than 15 employees to be eligible.
Winners will be announced in early February.
