Get the Fatale [PC] Trailer off WP (15mb)
Much smaller in scale -but not in ambition-, "Fatale" (working title) is similar to their 2008 piece The Graveyard: an explorable painting or an interactive vignette more than a goal-oriented quest.
"Fatale" is based on the legend of Salomé, who, 2000 years ago, demanded the head of John the Baptist as a reward for dancing for her stepfather, King Herod. Oscar Wilde's 1891 interpretation of Salomé as a young woman in love with the prophet is the main inspiration for the project. In "Fatale" you will be able to explore the scene of this momentous historical event, experiencing the story through the emotions and thoughts of the characters involved.
Tale of Tales introduce the sound and music in Fatale, created by Jarboe, Kris Force and Gerry De Mol.
"One of the cornerstones of our approach to design for interactive entertainment, is that all elements in the production are of equal importance," Fatale designers Auriea Harvey and Michael Samyn point out. "We do not single out any element above any other: 3D artwork, animation, interaction, text, sound and music all contribute in equal parts to the multi-sensory experience. Our aim is to communicate on many levels simultaneously and offer many different forms of amusement and delight. Traditionally, videogames tend to be a very visually oriented medium. But in our work, sound is of equal importance. And somehow it felt fitting to release an audio-only trailer for a project about a man who loses his head."
In the team of eight people working on Fatale, three are dedicated to sound. Jarboe (Swans) has performed the voice acting of part of Oscar Wilde's play "Salome" that is used in the vignette. She also contributed ambient music. Kris Force (Amber Asylum) is responsible for the sound effects. And Belgian singer-songwriter Gerry De Mol has composed dance music for the project.
Earlier, Jarboe and Kris Force together created the celebrated soundtrack of Tale of Tales' short horror game The Path (IGF-finalist in 2008). And Gerry De Mol is the author of the song in this year's IGF-finalist The Graveyard, for which Kris Force did the sound design. Gerry De Mol also composed the music for Tale of Tales' multiplayer screensaver The Endless Forest.
Fatale is scheduled to be released on October 5th 2009, the 78th anniversary of the first public performance of Salomé in English. The play had been banned from the British stage for almost 50 years because of its depiction of biblical figures.
