Patrick was born in a small and unknown village in Holland in the night during the 20th and the 21st of March 1979, between the sign of Pisces and Aries. His mother and grandmother had the same powers that they always tried to reject and hide by living a quiet and isolated life.

The mother as a young girl, after a night of infernal visions, got very scared and decided to retire to a nunnery. She was kicked out of it when they discovered that she secretly gave birth to the little Patrick. Then he was given to the grandmother and was raised by her while the mother was locked up into a mental hospital.

Patrick has some scars on his hands since he was born. Those scars seem a circle and a pentacle.

In 1984 (when Patrick was 8 years old), during a very cold November, the grandmother and the child had to move to a very old and creaky house in another village due to economic problems.

The first night in his new environment was a nightmare for the little Patrick: frozen to the bones he screamed his grandmother’s name before falling on the bed. He was under shock and panicked with hallucinations. All the room became an inferno full of evil presences. Patrick had an epileptic crisis and fell asleep…

The next morning the grandmother found him scared to death and wrapped into a blanket in the corner of his bedroom. She hugged him and told the words he would never forget:“The hell exists and you are one of the few men who are able to see it. Now you have two options, son. You can either get crazy and run away for the rest of your life, or look into the eyes of evil and face it with courage. Have not fear. You are not alone because I’ll be your guide. Look at your hands. Those marks aren’t scars. They are a gift from heaven. Combined together, they form the symbol of the sign you were born under…

With the typical innocence of his age Patrick learnt how to use and control his powers and that he has the grandmother as his spiritual companion.

On the day of his 17th birthday the old woman died of pneumonia after months of agony. Patrick took care of her as he could but without money and without being able to get help from the other people in the village she couldn’t be saved…

The house of the von Grubers is the main place of the plot of the game “I’m not alone”. It was built at the beginning of the 19th century by the Von Grubers themselves.

They were an ancient and rich family of landowners in the florid Austrian countryside. They wanted to give their son (father of Lilian) a different life. That’s why they sent him to study in the best Swiss schools. Then he joined the Austrian Army. He got married to a school friend with the passion for history and classical-music and in 1898 Lilian was born. Because of his parents Lilian was educated in the best way possible and they had strong expectations about his studies and results. When he was 4 he started playing the piano with his mum, and he became better and better with each year. When he was 10 years of age, everyone foresaw a great future in music for him as he was really into his music with every part of his body.

The parents were very over-protecting him, so they decided to let him study at home. The mother, a former history teacher, took care about his education and so his isolation started to grow.

The hours in the house between the study and piano practice were long and boring and totally focused on his mum.

Because of the total absence of the father in the house and the long time spent studying together, a morbid relationship between the two developed…
