Kuju Entertainment Founders Are Stepping Down

by Rainier on April 7, 2010 @ 8:21 a.m. PDT

Kuju Entertainment announced the appointment of Nigel Robbins to the post of CEO as he takes over from CEO and founder Ian Baverstock. Both Baverstock and fellow co-founder Jonathan Newth are stepping away from their operational roles following the 2007 acquisition of Kuju by Catalis SE.

Robbins will focus on the continued development of Kuju's successful stable of studios; Zoe Mode, Vatra, Headstrong and Doublesix as well as new businesses in line with the Catalis Group's growth strategy. Robbins is a former content and creative specialist and business builder for Viacom's MTV Networks. He aims to bring a new perspective to the leading games developer which specialises in creating games across a wide range of genres on console, PC and handheld platforms.

Kuju Entertainment Chairman, Dominic Wheatley, said: "Nigel has a wealth of creative and dynamic leadership experience within the realms of TV, digital media and online services. He brings fresh thinking to the group at a fascinating juncture within the worldwide digital entertainment industry."

Said Robbins: "I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to build on Kuju's strong foundations and focus on doing what we do best. Our job is to create compelling quality content across all platforms and delivery channels, and that will continue to be the focus within each of our studios, ensuring that we are the first choice developer for our publishing partners."

Wheatley confirmed that Baverstock and Newth will work on a number of special projects for Kuju during the coming months, and will stay on as non-executive directors for the long-term. "Ian and Jonathan are consummate industry professionals and they have led the charge at Kuju magnificently for more than two decades. It's great for us that they will maintain that close connection, given their in depth knowledge and experience of the company they founded and the industry in which it operates."

Robbins’s previous roles include tenures as President of MTV Networks Asia Pacific, overseeing over thirty MTV, Nickelodeon and VH1 branded TV, online and digital content services in the region. He also served as President of MTV Group Japan and SVP Content & Creative under MTV Networks International, launching the Network's operations and creative roll out strategies in a number of competitive and diverse markets such as Australia, China, Korea, Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent.
