Del Toro served as external creative director for the games, working closely with THQ Executive Vice President, Core Games Danny Bilson, THQ Director of Fiction Development Paul DeMeo and THQ’s Volition, Inc. studio on the development of the trilogy.
During a recent investor's conference call THQ president Jason Rubin confirmed that Volition was no longer working on Insane, "We have decided not to pursue further pre-production on Insane, and have returned all of our IP rights to Guillermo del Toro. By canceling these explorations outside of our core business, we feel we can improve focus on our core game portfolio."
Fans who, were looking forward to the game can rest assured as Guillermo del Toro revealed that a new, yet undisclosed, development studio has picked up the project, "we went to a great developer on the first meeting and it seems that they're picking it up because they love the package."
Plans however have changed a bit as inSANE was originally to be a trilogy but due to THQs financial troubles and the re-evaluating of the project it remains to be seen whether there will be more than one title, Del Toro stated "I think we're going to concentrate on making it a great game and then we'll see. Obviously, among the assets was that idea, so I think there's a possibility. But we are not exploring it."
