'Frozen Endzone' Announced - Screens & Trailer

Frozen Cortex is a tactical future sports game that combines the strategic depth of Frozen Synapse with an elegant interface, creative gameplay and a futuristic aesthetic.

Two teams face off in a randomly-generated situation. You must design a play to get the ball into your opponent's endzone, using the stadium's terrain to your advantage.

Frozen Endzone is Mode 7’s second simultaneous-turn-based game.  We feel it’s a massively under-used mechanical structure (with pure turn-based still predominating) and leads to some really interesting design decisions.

It’s a “future sports” game: this is the most awesome genre ever.  Nobody makes “future sports” games any more (apart from us).  We don’t know why.  Also, fantastical sports games tend to be a bit like Blood Bowl and have lots of rules, whereas Endzone is simple to play and is something of a reaction to that style of gameplay.

Frozen Endzone’s art style is the unique product of the mind of Richard Whitelock, an ex-AAA superstar artist who was responsible for art on various huge franchises.  Similarly, Martin Binfield is our Lead Animator.

The music is being written by Joint Managing Director Paul Taylor (aka nervous_testpilot).  There was a huge reaction to the Frozen Synapse soundtrack (Totalbiscuit even called it “one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard in my life”), so finding the time to work on that is important but difficult alongside his other roles (which include writing the entire narrative for the single player).  As someone who works on both business and creative things, Paul has a weird perspective on the games industry and likes talking about that.
