'Soul Sacrifice' (PSV) Demo Coming Next Week

by Rainier on April 12, 2013 @ 10:00 a.m. PDT

Soul Sacrifice is a new action game from former Capcom exec Keiji Inafune, known for Mega Man and Resident Evil, revolving around self sacrifice, offering up body parts to generate spells during combat.

The theme of Soul Sacrifice is “reality blended experience," where reality blends into a fantasy world.

The word “fantasy” normally points to a story that is fictitious; however, with Soul Sacrifice the developers wanted to illustrate a “reality” within a fantasy that wasn’t sugar-coated. It’s not about focusing on the strange, but to flip the commonly held concept of what a fantasy theme should be with the concept of “reality.”

Cruelty is a reality in our world, and we have to make sacrifices and pay costs on a daily basis. Keiji Inafune wanted to blend this “reality” theme into a fantasy world, one filled with magic, and create a new type of gaming experience that relied on the player making sacrifices in order to obtain great power.

There is a “dark pleasure” lying in between fiction and reality that none of us knew was there. If you simply think of it as a “dark fantasy,” then your expectations will be betrayed – but in a good way.

Another key feature of this game is the concept of “sacrifice.” In order to use sorcery during fierce battles, you must be willing to make a sacrifice – ranging from personal belongings, a limb, maybe even a life. How much would you be willing to sacrifice to gain ultimate power?

The demo for Soul Sacrifice is coming to PlayStation Store on April 16th!

The demo begins in despair, with you in the role of a captive imprisoned by a ruthless mage and awaiting sacrifice. The looming promise of certain death is interrupted by the appearance of a mysterious book. The tome, inexplicably able to think and speak, introduces itself as Librom.

Librom also claims to hold a special power, allowing those who read it to experience what’s written within. But it’s best that we spoil no more than that! Be sure to try out the Soul Sacrifice demo on April 16th, and check back here when you do — we’ll have more information about the game to share!
