'PlanetSide 2' (ALL) Adding User-Generated Missions In August

by Rainier on June 27, 2013 @ 5:04 p.m. PDT

PlanetSide 2 is an all-out planetary war, where thousands of players battle as one across enormous continents while utilizing infantry, ground & air vehicles, and teamwork to destroy your enemies in this first-person shooter on a massive scale.

Across the continents of Auraxis, thousands of players will come together in enormous battles to win control of territory and resources for their empire. With an extensive skill tree and a free-form class-based system, players will be able to customize their soldier, weapons and vehicles to match their play-style, or the needs of their squad, outfit or empire. Battles can last for days or weeks, so players will need to build real alliances and combat outfits to take on long-term strategic and tactical initiatives. With air, ground and seaborne combat, the battles are more intense than ever.

Various character, vehicle and artillery customization features will be available to players constructing the perfect fighter for their favorite of the three empires: The Terran Republic (the conservative, authoritative nation aiming to reunite the clashing factions), The New Conglomerate (a liberated faction fighting to remaining free) or The Vanu Sovereignty (technophiles seeking to develop and exploit alien technology). Also, an in-depth and adaptive class system – with ranks, unlockable traits and skill sets – will give players complete control over their online warrior.

PlanetSide 2 has always embraced the idea that the core game content is totally player driven, so the mission system just takes that idea a little further. We want to give players (with appropriate command certs) the ability to create mission hotspots on the map that can be viewed by their entire Empire.

  • These missions would ask for specific actions in specific locations, and provide bonus experience for players that accept them.
  • Players can only have one mission active at a time
  • An example mission might look something like one of these:
    • Air Strikes at location
      • XP bonus to ground kills/assists while in aircraft at this location.
      • Greatly increased gunner XP bonus (for Lib Pilots)
      • Greatly increased XP bonus for Sunderer kills.
    • Deployment to location
      • Large XP increase to deploy-bonuses.
      • Large XP increase to AMS spawn bonuses.
      • XP bonus for repairs to any deployment vehicle (Galaxy & Sunderer)
      • XP bonus to squad-deploy bonuses
      • Increased weight on Instant-action value
