War, The Game is developed by Obbe Vermeij who started work in 1999 on Grand Theft Auto III, the first 3d version of the franchise. Obbe, now technical director, programmed areas of the game such as vehicle AI, pathfinding, weather system, numerous graphical effects, water, scripting engine, rendering occlusion. As the team was only 25 people everybody had a large say in the game mechanics and the missions. After a few changes of ownership the company was now owned by Take-2 interactive and the studio was renamed 'Rockstar North'.
Obbe continued in his role as technical director for 'Grand Theft Auto, Vice City' (2002), 'Grand Theft Auto, San Andreas (2004)' and 'Grand Theft Auto IV' (2008).
