'Orcs Must Die! Unchained' Closed Beta Gets Content Update

Orcs Must Die! Unchained is a fast-paced Fortress Siege action game in which teams of heroes battle head-to-head to attack and defend ancient strongholds.

For the first time in Orcs Must Die!, teams of players are responsible for both sides of the battle -- building traps to stop the enemy assault AND summoning their own armies to lead against the enemy defense.

White-knuckle Fortress Siege action puts you into the thick of competitive siege warfare. Unleash your minions and charge into the heart of the enemy stronghold and build an impenetrable gauntlet of traps to hack, grind, flatten, gibletize and incinerate your foes. Your team must master both tactics to triumph.

Dozens of unique and powerful heroes offer deep gameplay options at all skill levels. Old friends the War Mage and Sorceress return to face new enemy heroes like Blackpaw, Midnight, Stinkeye, and Bloodspike. Whether players prefer might and majesty or scum and villainy, there’s a hero for everyone.

Collect and upgrade powerful heroes, over-the-top weapons, devious traps and fiendish minions. Build an arsenal from an enormous variety of options, and customize a strategy for every match. New heroes, weapons, traps, and minions are continuously added, and your collection will never stop evolving!

Robot Entertainment presented Tundra as part of the previous 1.4 update. The brutish polar bear is best equipped to make a furore in both melee and ranged combat. His powerful frost magic makes him immune to control skills for a period of time and in the centre of the action, he takes out enemy traps row after row. On top of this, he spurs on the player-favourite bear units. The furry minions become even more dangerous and ensure a greater punch in the push towards the enemy rift.

The newest version, 1.6, extends the ranks of heroes with the versatile Ancestor. His floating figure and vampiric attributes make him a tricky treat of a character. Under the motto ‘Suffer Well!’, the dark mage profits from the suffering around him. He uses this to regenerate his mana stocks through the deaths of allied and enemy minions or absorbs health from his enemies. In addition, he has magic that can heal his teammates, making him a more than welcome ally in the lane.

Update 1.6 expands Orcs Must Die! Unchained with a further map, named ‘Highlands’, which will make for some exciting matches with its three lane setup. Compared to the old map, which has two access routes to the enemy rift, the third lane creates a whole new host of tactical possibilities – and as a result, requires focused discussion amongst teammates.

Just in time for Halloween, the previous map ‘Cliffside Clash’ has been transformed into a ghoulish landscape of horrors. To match this, selected heroes have dressed themselves up in the freely available skins with a Halloween style, alongside being able to select from one of the three further coming outfits.

As players upgrade their own war camps to levels three or four, they now experience another new change. Once per level, at the end of the next wave, a powerful captain appears. He then makes his way towards the enemy rift, stopping for no one. For attackers, the captain successfully reaching his goal means two rift points. The captain also extends defence strategies though, as he allows losing teams to work their way back into the game: if they manage to take down this colossus, they are rewarded with a large amount of resources.

On top of this, the developers are constantly fine-tuning the game balance and amongst others, have reworked the matchmaking to shorten the match search in multiplayer mode.
