'Evolve' (ALL) Introduces Cabot - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Nov. 13, 2014 @ 9:09 a.m. PST

Evolve is a multiplayer shooter that blends cooperative and competitive multiplayer experiences as a team of four hunters face off against a single, player-controlled monster.

Set on an alien planet in the distant future, gamers hunt their prey in adrenaline-pumping 4V1 matches. Players experience Evolve as a first-person shooter when playing cooperatively as the four hunters, while they control the monster in the third-person perspective, providing a gameplay experience unique to Evolve

Only one man could lead the desperate attempt to rescue he last of the remaining colonists from Shear: William Cabot. Long retired from planet taming, Cabot agreed to help and, with his robot partner Bucket, assembled the greatest team of Hunters in history.

Cabot is the third and final support Hunter shipping with Evolve in February. Like the other support hunters, Cabot helps the team do something they were already doing, better. Hank’s shield gun keeps the team alive. Bucket’s head, makes it almost impossible for the monster to get away. Cabot’s damage amplifier makes the monster easier to kill.

Here’s how:

  • The Damage Amplifier: Cabot’s signature weapon locks on to its target, weakening its armor and its hide. All damage done to his target is doubled. With the Damage Amp and Hyde’s flamethrower or, even better, Markov’s Arc Mines (with, say, the reload perk, holy crap) the monster is going to die. The Damage Amp, however, uses ammo. So reload often.
  • Radioactive Dust Tagging: On his command, his ship—the Laurie-Anne—drops an air burst of radioactive dust, highlighting every living thing in a 60-meter radius for twenty seconds. If the monster is in the dust’s area, not only is it unlikely to escape, it’s unlikely to live. Thanks to…
  • The Rail Cannon: All support hunters have powerful weapons, Cabot’s is the only one that can shoot through solid rock. If he can see its outline, he can kill it. With clear line of sight, the Rail Cannon’s rounds can keep going. If line of sight is blocked, by trees, or buildings, or rock, or anything, the cannon’s projectile bursts into a cone 40 meters long. Anything in that cone takes half damage from the Rail Cannon.

Between the Dust Tagging and the Rail Cannon, there is literally no place to hide. In fact, check out this quick Cabot-centric match we just shot in the office.
