Set on an alien planet in the distant future, gamers hunt their prey in adrenaline-pumping 4V1 matches. Players experience Evolve as a first-person shooter when playing cooperatively as the four hunters, while they control the monster in the third-person perspective, providing a gameplay experience unique to Evolve.
The smartest person on the team and the only hunter from Earth, Caira Diaz is also the only person on Shear with any hope of figuring out what the Monsters are, where they come from, and what they want. Given enough time, everyone believes she’ll find the answers. But there are only five days until the last evac ship leaves, and she’ll spend most of that time hunting Monsters.
Caira is the last medic revealed for the main game. With Caira on your team, you will get to the Monster faster, do more damage, and stay alive longer.
- Healing Grenades: Caira’s grenade launcher fires generyst grenades, healing everyone in their splash radius. Including herself! If Caira is near her target, she enjoys the replenished health making her the only medic who can directly heal herself.
- Napalm Grenades: Thunk…BOOM! Fire! If Caira hits the Monster with her napalm grenades, the Monster takes damage on impact, but even if she only lands a grenade near the beast, she’ll still light it on fire, doing damage over time.
- Adrenal Boost: Faster, faster, faster! The Adrenal Boost gives nearby hunters a huge speed boost, which means a very surprised Monster at the start of the game. It also means, when she needs to get away, Caria is almost impossible to catch.
Finally, like all the medics, Caira has the standard area-of-effect burst heal. Combined with her other abilities, Caira is one of the most versatile hunters on the team.
Here’s how:
- The Damage Amplifier: Cabot’s signature weapon locks on to its target, weakening its armor and its hide. All damage done to his target is doubled. With the Damage Amp and Hyde’s flamethrower or, even better, Markov’s Arc Mines (with, say, the reload perk, holy crap) the monster is going to die. The Damage Amp, however, uses ammo. So reload often.
- Radioactive Dust Tagging: On his command, his ship—the Laurie-Anne—drops an air burst of radioactive dust, highlighting every living thing in a 60-meter radius for twenty seconds. If the monster is in the dust’s area, not only is it unlikely to escape, it’s unlikely to live. Thanks to…
- The Rail Cannon: All support hunters have powerful weapons, Cabot’s is the only one that can shoot through solid rock. If he can see its outline, he can kill it. With clear line of sight, the Rail Cannon’s rounds can keep going. If line of sight is blocked, by trees, or buildings, or rock, or anything, the cannon’s projectile bursts into a cone 40 meters long. Anything in that cone takes half damage from the Rail Cannon.
Between the Dust Tagging and the Rail Cannon, there is literally no place to hide. In fact, check out this quick Cabot-centric match we just shot in the office.
