The game will feature huge persistent worlds that each support thousands of other players and varied terrain inspired by the environments of EQN. Most importantly, Landmark will provide anyone who wants to participate with the opportunity to actually build structures, and eventually create other types of content, to be considered for inclusion in EQN.
Whereas EverQuest Next uses a multi-classing system in which players collect and independently progress as many as 40 individual classes, EQ Landmark will have only one class - the Adventurer - which switches roles by switching weapons. A player might choose a sword and board to melee, and swap out to a staff for ranged DPS.
Major highlights include a much more expanded network of cave layers, the first NPC monsters, tons of additional equipment, graveyards for raising the deceased, and a vast transportation system for endless exploration.
This month's content update includes the following:
- Caves and Caverns - 5 layers ripe for underground exploration with mining veins of metal and gems, treasure-filled ruins and buried monuments (many created by Landmark players themselves!), and new / undiscovered monsters.
- Monsters Above & Below! - Five new types of monsters introduced both above ground and in the shadows below, each with a unique mode of attack and strategies to learn.
- New Equipment - Combine a wide variety of new lootable / craftable equipment to customize your play style and experiences in combat.
- Weapons: Crescent-Bladed Broadsword (Two-Handed), Obsidian Daggers (Double), Darksteel Sword and Shield, and Lucent Wand
- Armor: Dusk Mail (Heavy), Voltaic Guard (Heavy), Prismatic Raiment (Medium), and Harness of Torment (Medium)
- Accessories: Enhancing abilities with the lightning, radiance, affliction, and shadow themes
- Collectible Recipes - Search chests and loot from monsters in the caverns below to find the recipes to craft the latest and greatest items!
- Salvaging - Break down extra equipment items into magical components for new crafting recipes and Ether Shard currency.
- Transportation - The portal spire on each island expands into a full leyline network, including additional teleport points to further explore above and below ground; transport UI is also being upgraded with more useful info.
- Graveyards! - If players die on the surface, they return to the hub, but if players die below the first layer, they release to one of the graveyards scattered underground.
- Plus!
- Linking and Triggering Phase 1 - A new system that allows you to link behaviors and props together to create new and interesting interactivity on your claims
- Additional props to decorate your claim, tooltip improvements, voice chat and a variety of bug fixes / performance improvements
