'Magicka: Wizard Wars' Goes Open Beta - Trailer

by Rainier on May 27, 2014 @ 2:26 p.m. PDT

Magicka: Wizard Wars is a player-versus-player (PvP)-focused multiplayer game based on their Magicka slapstick sorcery franchise.

Magicka: Wizard Wars, a team-based, fast-paced, two-faced, post-haste, four-on-four twitch action-PvP title, mixes Magicka’s hallmark dynamic spellcasting and absurd pop-culture humor with new hardcore game mechanics and a focus on competitive play.

In Magicka: Wizard Wars, two teams of four wizards each will go head-to-lightning-bolt on the field of battle, wielding a wealth of magic spells as players adapt their tactics on the fly in response to their opponents. In true Magicka fashion, victory will go to the team whose wizards can combine the craftiest casts – and who can avoid the most friendly fire. With short battles, persistent character progression, and plenty of laughter, Magicka: Wizard Wars is perfect for a few quick games to unwind after work – or a forty-hour binge over the weekend. Paradox promises not to judge.

As previously announced, anybody can download and play Magicka: Wizard Wars and try their hand at the elementary arcane arts in 4-on-4 combat and 1-on1 duels. The entire world is now invited to sample the game where skill-based spellcasting wins the day and friendly fire is always on, begin your journey into Magicka: Wizard Wars and experience the possibilities of robe-based fashion by clicking here.

The advance to Beta introduces a cauldron’s worth of new content to Magicka: Wizard Wars, including a new Wizard Warfare map set in the dark caves of Galdrhöll Halls – where the spectacular effects of players’ spells can really shine, along with the slick red bits of Wizards who probably should have practiced a bit more. A new ‘Raise Dead’ Magick has also been added, which conjures forth undead zombie imps who hunger for enemy brains. New robes, staffs, and unique skins also appear in this version, making it the most robust depiction of frantic spellcasting in gaming today.
