'This War of Mine' Lets You Share Player-Created Content - Trailer

by Rainier on Oct. 6, 2015 @ 8:13 a.m. PDT

This War Of Mine provides an experience of war seen from an entirely new angle. You do not play as an elite soldier but as a group of civilians trying to survive in a besieged city.

This War of Mine is a dark survival game where you control a group of civilians trying to stay alive in a besieged city.

Your task is simple: survive.

The pace of the game is imposed by the day and night cycle. During the day snipers outside stop you from leaving your refuge, so you need to focus on maintaining your hideout: crafting, trading and taking care of survivors. At night, take one of your civilians on a mission to scavenge through a set of unique locations for items that will help you stay alive.

Make life-and-death decisions driven by your conscience. Try to protect everybody from your shelter or sacrifice some of them to endure the hardships. During war, there are no good or bad decisions; there is only survival. The sooner you realize that, the better.

With New Beginning (Update 1.4), This War of Mine introduces the ability to share player-created scenarios through Steam Workshop. The update will pave the way for enhanced modding tools, while also opening the doors for players to experience a massive collection of personalized stories from around the world.

Creative Director Michal Drozdowski says, "This is just the beginning, with additional tools being developed that will give almost unlimited possibilities for the modding scene. We know it’s a challenge. After all, This War of Mine tackles serious topics and exposes genuine emotions, and since we're going to open up the game, many new types of war stories will appear. Yes, some of them will undoubtedly be silly, but I cannot wait to see those that approach the tragedy of war in a respectful way. I’m sure people have thousands of great scenarios in their heads and soon they will be able to bring them to life.”

In addition to sharing and modding capabilities, the storytelling possibilities within the Scenario Editor are being expanded with new, more diverse characters and additional language support in Turkish, Korean, and Japanese.
