Playing like the result of a Mass Effect, Diablo and Smash TV threesome, Space Sluggers is a game for fans of shooting aliens in the head, non-stop cheesy sci-fi and making choices that matter.
It’s the year 2560AD and humanity is in deep shit. Only the Space Sluggers can save the galaxy from probable doom. Players must take their motley crew, each with their own unique weapons, abilities and personal problems, and forge them into an elite alien-smashing team.
At first glance, Space Sluggers appears to be just an awesomely intense co-op twin-stick shooter featuring ridiculously over the top weapons and a ‘90s stylin' cartoon art style. But beneath this bitching surface lies a deep and granular progression system, a wide variety of mission types including defence and survival-horror and procedural map and gameplay generation that ensures the campaign levels play differently each time.
For players who enjoy smashing aliens with friends, Space Sluggers allows them to form a formidable fire team of up to four thanks to the game’s drop-in, drop-out co-op mode. Available both online and offline, cooperative play cranks up the intensity dial and allows squads to unleash frightening levels of ordinance.
“Remember the excitement you felt when watching ‘90s sci-fi classics like Total Recall, Starship Troopers, or Independence Day? That’s the sort of feeling we wanted to recreate when playing Space Sluggers” William Tan, CEO, of Rocktastic Games said. “It’s over the top, it’s crazy, and packs a mean punch that hits you when you least expect it”.
“When we first saw Space Sluggers we were immediately drawn in by its awesome art-style and attitude. But then we thought - shit, twin-stick shooters are fun but they’ve been totally done to death,” said Surprise Attack Games’ Managing Director, Chris Wright. “Digging in with the team though we were blown away by how much they are bringing into the genre to make it feel fresh and exciting again. It’s like we’re back in the ‘90s on so many levels!”
