Friday the 13th: The Game will deliver a terrifying combination of features designed to satisfy gamers and fans of the Friday the 13th franchise alike. In addition to bringing the tension and horror of the movies to life, the game will also let players don the mask of Jason Voorhees for the first time and control all new levels of brutal action! The development team had earlier collaborated on the unreleased survival horror-themed game Slasher Vol. 1: Summer Camp and plans to integrate much of that design into the new Friday the 13th game.
After a successful Friday the 13th: The Game kickstarter campaign the team at Gun Media and IllFonic are hard at work bringing Jason Voorhees to life! Kane Hodder, best-known for his portrayal as Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th: Part 7 through Jason X, has donned the motion capture suit to return to his definitive role, even going so far as to injure himself while performing the iconic sleeping bag kill from Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood.
Friday the 13th: The Game will be bigger and more robust to give all fans the game we've been clamoring after for over 26 years as the most-often requested features to Friday the 13th: The Game will indeed be included within the game; a single player experience and the inclusion of AI bots as well as the inclusion of Tommy Jarvis as a playable character and Packanack Lodge as a playable map.
While these changes mean a bigger game, they also mean a delay from a Fall 2016 release window to a new launch window scheduled for Early 2017. Gun Media and IllFonic will use the time to lay down the groundwork for the single player experience while continuing development of the multiplayer portion with additional content.
"The first thing people are going to read here is 'delay,' says Gun Media studio head and co-creator Wes Keltner. 'We want everyone to be assured that coming to our decision to delay was no easy matter, but we believe that the positives far outweigh the negatives. We've been reading day in and day out on our social media feeds that single player and Tommy Jarvis were in such a demand that we couldn't ignore our fans. After securing funding, we're here to tell you that it is a reality and we're making this game even bigger. It sucks that there's a delay, but the wait won't be too long and it's going to offer more for fans in the long-run!"
Those who have already pre-ordered will receive single player for free when it releases. Price of the game henceforth for all new orders will increase from $30USD digital to $40USD digital, while physical will remain $60USD.
The updated timeline will roughly be as follows:
- Late 2016: Beta Release including 4 additional keys for friends
- Early 2017: Multiplayer Release with Tommy Jarvis and Packanack Lodge as the third playable map
- Summer 2017: Single Player Release and AI Bots
You don’t have to eat, drink or sleep. Just live. That’s hard enough as it is.
