'Dirty Bomb' Update Adds Features, New Merc, And More

by Rainier on April 6, 2016 @ 12:22 p.m. PDT

Dirty Bomb is an Unreal Engine 3-powered free-to-play competitive/multiplayer shooter set in 2020 London during the aftermath of a mysterious disaster.

Dirty Bomb is a team-based game in which players will select from a diverse group of mercenaries, each with their own very different personalities, talents and weapons, to create specialized squads to take into the fray on a quest for riches and bragging rights.

It is 2020 and the once great city of London stands abandoned after a mysterious disaster, a dilapidated shell of its former self. After the initial evacuation, the International Crisis and Disaster Agency stepped in to clean up the mess and decontaminate the city. They failed… badly.

Now the streets of London are the playground of Private Military Companies (PMCs) who battle to control the city’s abandoned riches. After all, what’s a little radiation sickness when there’s money to be made?

Say goodbye to London, say hello to the Merc Capital of the World. Say hello to Dirty Bomb.

This update provides a wealth of new content for players, including the new Merc Aimee, who’s equipped with an array of Sniper Rifles and SNITCH Device which spots and weakens enemies, along with a player-driven in-game event offering Limited Edition Loadout Cards, Trinkets and more.

The Rogue en Vogue event takes place over five weeks. During that time, players help Aimee hack into the MercSERV database to uncover who assassinated her client, Max Bashki. In the process, players get to unlock exclusive Trinkets and Limited Edition Loadout Cards.

Each week, four Mercs are designated as Suspects and put into free rotation for all players to access. The Merc most taken in Squads will be listed as a ‘Prime Suspect’. In the fifth week, all four Prime Suspects will be placed into the final rotation, after which the most-taken Merc in Squads will be revealed as the Culprit.

Rogue en Vogue introduces a limited-time event currency called Decryption Cycles. Players earn them by playing in matches, completing special Missions and can also buy them with the existing in-game currency, Credits.

Cycles can be used to unlock a number of items including the unique Culprit Case, which can be opened once the event is over and contains an exclusive Loadout Card featuring a Limited Edition skin for the Culprit. Along with the Culprit Case, players can also acquire ‘Suspect Equipment Cases’ which give players the chance to obtain Limited Edition Suspect Loadout Cards for Mercs on rotation each week, and three unique Weapon Trinkets depicting levels of MercSERV security.

Once players complete matches, along with earning Cycles they also have a chance to receive a Suspect Event Case, which guarantees a Limited Edition Suspect Loadout Card. Drop chances can be increased by using Drop Boosters, which can be purchased with Cycles.

Here are some of the other cool features included in this update:

  • Help Aimee reveal which Merc in Squads is the Culprit;
  • Unlock exclusive Trinkets and Limited Edition Loadout Cards;
  • Decryption Cycles – a limited-time event currency where players earn them by playing in matches, completing special Missions and can also buy them with the existing in-game currency, Credits;
  • Unlock a number of items including the unique Culprit Case at the end of the event for an exclusive Loadout Card featuring a Limited Edition skin for the Culprit
  • In addition to items purchasable with Cycles through gameplay, this update brings some new Cash Shop additions only available for the event:
  • Suspect Elite Cases ($ 4.99): These give players a greater chance of receiving Suspect Loadout Cards for one of the four Mercs on rotation each week, as well as increased drop rates for Silver and higher tier Loadout Cards
    • Day one deals will also be available each week. Players who purchase a bundle of five ($ 19.99) Suspect Elite Cases will receive one guaranteed Suspect Event Case, and those who buy a bundle of ten ($ 34.99) will receive two guaranteed Suspect Event Cases as a bonus
  • Skullsplitter Trinket ($4.99): As well as acting as a grim reminder of Aimee’s ex-client, this Trinket gives players a Cycle earn rate bonus for the duration of the event as well as a permanent special animation in the kill obituaries.
  • Vengeance Obsidian Pack ($ 14.99): The new Merc Aimee will be available bundled with the Obsidian Culprit Case, which unlocks one of Dirty Bomb’s most exclusive tier of Obsidian cards and skins for the Culprit after the event ends.

Key Features

  • Competitive To The Core – A return to the classic FPS PC feel with frenetic run ‘n gun action and asymmetrical team-play, Dirty Bomb is built for gamers with a mouse, a keyboard and an appetite for heated competition. Casual players need not apply.
  • Your Mercs, Your Style – Choose from a wide array of larger-than-life Mercenaries. Need heavy fire-power? Pick Rhino, the mini-gun toting foul-mouthed bruiser with the firepower to match. Prefer the fleet feet of a mine dropping Merc? Proxy’s your girl. Each Merc has a variety of unique abilities and load-outs to strategically combat each game challenge and situation. So select your favourite three, form a squad, and get ready to Play Dirty!
  • There’s no “I” in Team – Although each Merc has their individual strengths, they really come into their own when working as part of a team to pull off the perfect play and clear an objective. Success in Dirty Bomb relies on working together to show your opponents the real meaning of hostile negotiations.
  • A Mercenary's Playground – Compete for riches and bragging rights in 5v5 or 8v8 multiplayer action across the game’s initial modes:
    • Objective – Complete team objectives such as escorting a moving vehicle while your opponent defends
    • Stop-Watch – It’s about teamwork and strategy in this race against time. Players take turns attacking and defending objectives while the clock counts down
  • Free-to-Win – Totally free to play and, more importantly, free to win, Dirty Bomb provides hundreds of hours of competitive multiplayer action. It’s all about playing well as a team and mastering your Mercs and their abilities, not the amount of money spent.
