'Heroes & Generals' Update Adds New Tanks, XP Boost, Skins And More

by Rainier on Aug. 11, 2016 @ 3:46 p.m. PDT

Heroes & Generals WWII is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online first person shooter set in WW2, where Germany, the United States and the Soviet Union fight for victory in one grand persistent online war.

Heroes & Generals eliminates the formulaic baggage that weighs down the shooter genre by delivering satisfying strategic action in a full blown first-person shooter experience. Players are transported from the comfort of their browsers to authentic WWII battlefields, where they fight alongside thousands of gamers for persistent progression and military supremacy.

Each player in Heroes & Generals chooses their own destiny. You might join the Axis and climb the ranks as a foot soldier, firing off countless rounds in epic battles for crucial landmarks. Or perhaps you’ll become a general in the US army and accept the task of deploying resources and reinforcements across a vast strategic map.

Either way your decisions and actions fundamentally impact the game. Whether you play a fearless infantryman blazing the trenches, a hotshot pilot renowned for precision bombing runs, a brutal gunner assigned to a rumbling tank battalion, or the ace commander directing it all from strategic command – every active soldier contributes to an evolving online war that will soon expand to smartphones and tablets as well.

Reto-Moto is adding five new tanks to their popular WWII MMOFPS Heroes & Generals with the just released ‘Furness – Fist of Steel’ update. The Soviet faction gets a Tank destroyer, Heavy and Medium Tank and the US faction receives a Tank destroyer and Heavy Tank to balance out the German faction’s previous surplus of tanks.

The Furness update is named after the British soldier Christopher Furness. In May 1940 he commanded a carrier platoon as his battalion formed part of the garrison of the town Arras, France. He fought against hopeless odds and made the enemy temporarily withdraw, enabling survivors to get clear. He received the Victoria Cross.

The new tanks for the Soviet faction are:

  • SU-76M Tank Destroyer, regarded as a reliable, easy to use and well liked tank destroyer and the second most produced Soviet armored vehicle of WWII
  • T-28 Model 1934, one of the world’s first Medium Tanks predominantly used during the Winter War against Finland.
  • KV-85 Heavy Tank, nicknamed by the Germans as the “Russischen Koloss” (the Russian Colossus) due to its heavy armament and sheer size.

The new tanks for the US faction are:

  • US M10 Tank Destroyer, often referred to as the ‘Wolverine’ and numerically the most important Tank Destroyer of WWII.
  • US M4A3E2 Sherman, nicknamed ‘Jumbo’ and one of the heaviest armored tanks at the time – many of them served as command tanks.

With the ‘Furness – Fist of Steel’ update Reto-Moto is also adding more than 600 new battlefields to the War Map of Heroes & Generals bringing the total to a little over 4.200 battlefields.

As an important part of the ‘Furness – Fist of Steel’ update, players will also experience a faster Rank Progression as the experience points needed to reach Rank 4-12 have been reduced by more than 50%.

“We decided to take a look at the grind in the game, and have eased up the Rank Progression. The benefit of this being that players get to be Squad Leaders earlier and they get to earn more credits giving them more possibilities in the game,” says Jacob Andersen, Game Director at Reto-Moto.

The ‘Furness – Fist of Steel’ update also contains a batch of new weapon skins, new vehicle camouflage skins and lots of small UI changes for the War Map.
