'Evolve' (ALL) Cataclysm Update Adds New Map & Co-op vs AI Queue

by Rainier on Aug. 9, 2016 @ 1:12 p.m. PDT

Evolve is a multiplayer shooter that blends cooperative and competitive multiplayer experiences as a team of four hunters face off against a single, player-controlled monster.

Set on an alien planet in the distant future, gamers hunt their prey in adrenaline-pumping 4v1 matches. Players experience Evolve as a first-person shooter when playing cooperatively as the four hunters, while they control the monster in the third-person perspective, providing a gameplay experience unique to Evolve.

Play as the Monster to use savage abilities and an animalistic sense to kill your human enemies, or choose one of four Hunter classes (Trapper, Support, Assault and Medic) and team up to take down the beast on the planet Shear, where flora and fauna act as an adversary to Hunter and Monster alike. Evolve includes three Monsters, 12 Hunters, 16 maps, and four game modes: Hunt, Nest, Rescue, and Defend.

Evolve as you know it has been completely overhauled and is being re-launched on PC today as Evolve Stage 2, with new game design, gameplay mechanics, and improved gameplay balance and system performance. Not only that, but starting today you can play Evolve Stage 2 completely FREE on PC via Steam.

Orbital Drill has been altered into a map engulfed in hellfire and molten lava. The sky has been consumed with embers, soot and smoke that could engulf the whole planet. Strangely enough alongside the hellfire, the planet seems to have taken some of the Hunters healing technology through this transformation. Once Hunts begin in the Cataclysm zone, both Hunters and Monsters will see the damaging hellfire meteors falling from the sky, leaving damage-dealing areas of effect in their wake, as well as Generyst infused meteors that will leave healing areas of effect for both the Hunters and Monsters on impact. Starting today, Cataclysm will make its way into general Hunt matchmaking and the new Co-op matchmaking queue.

In addition to Cataclysm, we have a number of new community requested features, including an all-new Co-op vs AI matchmaking queue where you can play with your friends and enjoy some more relaxed games of Hunt on Shear! It’s the perfect place for practicing with a squad of friends and trying new hunter team and perk combinations. This is the first of two co-op specific updates coming during Shear Madness and lays the groundwork for an all-new co-op mode coming later this month.
