'Everspace' (ALL) Available As Xbox One Game Preview Title

by Rainier on Sept. 23, 2016 @ 8:34 a.m. PDT

Everspace is a roguelike 3D space shooter with a non-linear story and fast-paced shooter gameplay.

In Everspace, players awaken onboard a battleship in a remote corner of our galaxy. They receive a mysterious command to appear at a specific place. Searching for the origins of their own existence and the unknown commander, they must fight their way through more and more new, uncontrolled territories where they will encounter other skilled combat pilots, who range from cooperative to hostile. Death will be a constant companion and constantly recurring flashbacks of the protagonist will gradually shine a light in the darkness of the mission.

During the course of the game, players will not only have to continually prove their combat skills, but also gather fuel and raw materials in order to travel to various star systems and repair and upgrade their equipment. The roguelike character of the game offers a quick and easy entry to the game and adds constant twists and surprises to the game events. Along with gameplaying skills, this also demands improvisation by players and provides an individual, always motivational game experience. Unlike in classic roguelikes, game progress is not completely lost at the moment of death, but rather remains available in the form of persistent upgrades.

Last week ROCKFISH Games released Everspace on Steam Early Access and GOG's Games in Development, this week the 3D space shooter is available through Game Preview on Xbox One ($29.99)

It will also launch through Game Preview on Windows 10 later this month and be the very first ID@Xbox title supporting Play Anywhere featuring cross-saves and buy once, play anywhere. (Those who buy the game on Xbox One prior to the Windows 10 release will receive the Windows 10 version when it launches.)

"When demoing Everspace at the Xbox booth at E3, Gamescom, NerdHQ, Insomnia and the Microsoft Pre-Pax event, it got great feedback from anyone and it clearly didn't disappoint at its release on PC last week," said Chris Charla, Director ID@Xbox at Microsoft. "We are super excited to bring it to Xbox One and Windows 10 through Game Preview, even more being the first ID@Xbox title to support Play Anywhere."

For the launch, an all-new boss fight, some voice-acted dialogs, a new planet type, additional Outlaw stations as well as many interface and gameplay tweaks have been added. Further additions and improvements feature most requested options like turning off v-sync, more granular graphic settings, and improved support for ultra-wide monitors. In the coming months, two additional player ships will be added: The Colonial Scout, much smaller than the current Colonial Interceptor, will feature extreme maneuverability, a higher top speed but a weaker hull. It comes with a cloaking device and sniper weapons as starting gear. The upcoming Colonial Gunship will be the slowest of the three space ships but will compensate through a much stronger hull and an upgradable turret on top.

The full release of Everspace will feature a fully voice-acted story with several thoughtfully designed characters, situation-based events, as well as the Hardcore Mode and full VR support for Oculus Rift/HTC Vive, and will retail for $39.99 / €36.99 / £29.99.
