'Lonely Mountains: Downhill' Launches Kickstarter Campaign - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Oct. 17, 2017 @ 3:19 p.m. PDT

Lonely Mountains: Downhill is a downhill mountain biking game focusing on responsive and fun controls, an open level design and an untouched nature in a beautiful low poly style.

Just you and your bike - take it on a thrilling ride down an unspoiled mountain landscape. Make your way through thick forests, narrow trails and wild rivers. Race, jump, slide and try not to crash - all the way from the peak to the valley!

Explore a beautiful and untouched nature, make your way down to the valley and take part in the ongoing contest for the high-score by finding the best short cuts or going cross-country.

Lonely Mountains: Downhill is not an easy game. You will crash and you'll crash a lot - but you can instantly restart at the last checkpoint (which is never too far behind) and due to our rag-doll system crashing is actually quite fun - especially for the people watching you crash.

The game will feature numerous mountains - all of them handcrafted. Each consists of several sections connected seamlessly with multiple paths to the next checkpoint.

You can choose to take a relaxing ride on the scenic route, go off-road to find hidden locations and secrets, or you can go into "full speedrun mode" - trying to make that one nearly impossible jump over the canyon for the all-time record.

Megagon Industries has launched a kickstarter campaign, looking for $41,227, to finish up development on Lonely Mountains: Downhill.

“Since we build the first prototype of Lonely Mountains: Downhill two years ago we wanted to create a different kind of sports game. A game that is not only about winning a race or a tournament but about you and the mountain“ says Daniel Helbig, co-founder of the game dev duo Megagon Industries „The last two years were an incredible ride and we can’t wait to take the next step together with all the people who supported and encouraged us to make this Kickstarter campaign.“ adds co-founder Jan Bubenik.

There's a special bond between a rider and her or his bike. Not every bike is the best fit for every rider or every mountain. That’s why in the course of the game you will be able to unlock new bikes with different gameplay values, so that you can always choose the best bike for the trail ahead. We also know that everyone has a personal taste when it comes to cool looking bikes. Therefore each bike will have a large variety of different skins you can find or unlock.

Nature plays a huge role in our game. You'll find no barriers or sponsor signs on the side of the road. No audience cheering you on and no winner's podium waiting for you at the finish line. It's just you and the mountain.

Our goal is to make the environment in the game come to life. Trees are swaying in the wind, butterflies travel between the flowers and you can discover all kinds of birds and animals as you ride.

The audio design follows a similar vision. There will be no background music as you ride down the mountain. Instead expect to hear the wind rustling in the trees, the chirping of birds and animals grazing in the forests and the buzzing of insects crawling nearby.

Ready to see the world? The base version the game will feature six different lonely mountains which are inspired by real life mountainscapes and locations all around the globe.

  1. The Alps: Welcome to the highest European mountainscape and the start of your Downhill experience. Don't spend too much time marveling at the beauty of these gorgeous meadows as the rocky steeps will require your full attention.
  2. The Rockies: Maybe the most famous mountains in the world and probably the most beautiful. Inspired by the breathtaking vistas of the Canadian Rockies this mountain will take you through lush forests and along quiet mountain lakes.
  3. Grand Canyon: Yes, yes, we know - a canyon is not really a mountain…, but we promise you won't care about academic definitions anymore when you're riding on thin cliff edges hundred of feet above the ground.
  4. The Misty Forests: Try to find your way through the mist in these haunting forests inspired by the Scandinavian mountains. You’ll see that often the most beautiful things are also the most dangerous.
  5. Indian Summer: Enjoy the warm autumn sun on your digital skin while riding through these golden forests.
  6. ???: This will be kind of an experiment. We want to design one mountain in cooperation with the community. At the moment we have no idea how we'll do it but we will figure that out together.

Key Features:

  • Custom Bike Physics: We developed a custom bike physics system to achieve very tight and fun controls while still incorporating the feeling of driving a downhill bike through rough terrain.
  • Seamless Tracks: Ride all the way down from the top of the mountain to the valley in one seamless ride with no loading times.
  • Find Your Way: Play it safe and follow the trail or take the risk and go cross-country to find the fastest way down.
  • See The World: Travel to different mountainscapes and experience a beautiful nature untouched by men. No audience, no barrier tapes – just you and your bike.
  • Secret Locations: Explore the mountains to find secret locations and unlock new skins and gear.
  • Beautiful Low-Poly Style: The game combines low poly art with modern lighting and post-effects to achieve a stylized and unique look.
  • During the game you will not only unlock new mountains, bikes and paint jobs but also new game modes.
    • Classic Time Trial Mode: Go for the best-time and don't hold back as you can restart each section as often as you like.
    • Challenge Mode: Overcome specific challenges, ranging from finding short cuts, making certain jumps or reaching specific locations.
    • Hard Time Trial Mode: Failed attempts will count as a penalty to your best time - giving you the challenge to find the right trade off between risk vs. reward.
    • One Life Mode: Only for the toughest riders. You will feel your adrenaline rising with every meter you get closer to the finishing line and just be praying that you won't hit that one rock you normally hit every ******* time!

Lonely Mountains: Downhill will be available on PC/Mac starting mid 2018.
