'The Sinking City' (ALL) Shows Off Oakmont City - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Dec. 12, 2017 @ 10:09 a.m. PST

The Sinking City is a game of investigation and mystery taking place in a fictional open world inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft.

“We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of the infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far.”
— H.P. Lovecraft, “The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories”

The player steps into the shoes of a 1920s private investigator who finds himself in the city of Oakmont Massachusetts, New England. A city suffering from unprecedented floods  of clearly supernatural origins. A city trembling on the brink of madness. The city, a wide open-world oozing with insanity, is being taken over by an unfathomable supernatural force, and it's up to the player to find out what has taken control of the city... and the minds of the people within it.

Can you survive this beleaguered town and untangle the mysteries responsible for its tragic situation or will you be driven beyond madness yourself?

Bigben and Frogwares today share a new dev diary which details the creative process and the inspirations used in creating the city of Oakmont. This city will be the setting of a new supernatural adventure that players will experience in The Sinking City.

In this video, Wael Amr, CEO of Frogwares, focuses on the studio's vision for Oakmont. He explains how this city, as well as the environment that it's built upon, allowed them to create a game in which the player will be able to decide - and be left pondering - their experiences, whether real or supernatural.

In order to make Oakmont as realistic as it is disquieting, Katerina Frolova, an Architect and City Planner, along with Aleksey Yurkin, the Lead Level Artist, discuss how they drew inspiration from the structures and building styles used on the United States' east coast. By doing so, they've created an original vision of the American city where historically accurate details will help players immerse themselves in the world and freely explore Oakmont at their own peril and risk.

The Sinking City is currently in production and will be available in 2018 on PC and consoles.
