Unity Engine Adds NVIDIA VRWorks Support

by Rainier on April 26, 2017 @ 5:11 p.m. PDT

Unity released 2017.1.0 Beta 2 today, and enabled support for NVIDIA VRWorks technologies, making it easier to add VRWorks to titles created with the Unity Engine.

NVIDIA VRWorks delivers a new level of VR presence and immersion on GPUs that use our Pascal architecture. Unity now includes plug-ins for the following NVIDIA VRWorks technologies including Multi-Res Shading, Lens Matched Shading, Single Pass Stereo, and VR SLI.

This is significant to adoption of VRWorks because Unity Engine is a widely adopted game engine in the VR development community. Beyond games, developers rely on Unity for interactive experiences that touch on film, social, medical, tourism, design, education, and training. Giving developers using the Unity engine an easy way to tap into those features is a critical step in pushing VR forward.

"At GDC 2016 we announced that we would bring VR Works to the Unity Game engine.  Earlier this year at Unite LA we gave developers an early-access version.  Now — with Unity’s 2017.1.0 Beta 2 release — that promise has come to fruition. We have already been working with VR developers using the Unity Engine and expect wide adoption from the VR development community.  "

Developers can download the VRWorks plugin from the Unity Asset Store.
