Quake Champions will deliver the mythos of the first Quake with the groundbreaking multiplayer mayhem of Quake III Arena. The game will also introduce a major new feature to the franchise – Champions – a roster of fierce warriors, each with unique attributes and abilities, which enable players to compete in their own distinctive style.
Quake Champions is a frenetic test of skill and the ultimate competitive game. The purest form of this proving ground is Duel mode, a 1-v-1 showdown to decide who is best, once-and-for-all.
In Quake Champions, Duel mode introduces an additional layer of strategy, incorporating multiple Champions with differing Abilities. To start, players will select three Champions in a snake-style draft before heading to the Arenas. In choosing their roster, players will have to consider which Champions are better suited to their unique play style and which are effective counters to their opponents’ choices.
Taking a cue from fighting games, Duel is played as a best-of-three match. Within each round, a player has to defeat all three of the opponent’s Champions. When a player is fragged, they will respawn as another of their chosen Champions. When one player has all three Champions eliminated, a winner for that round is declared.
The Quake Champions “Large Scale Test Tech” is now live and will run until May 21. The Tech Test is welcoming all players and includes Duel mode as well as the new team-based competitive mode, Sacrifice. Players who want to join in the fragfest can hit the official website to sign up and receive a key.
Quake Champions continues id Software’s tradition of pushing the boundaries of modern technology and will deliver stunning graphics running at 120hz with unlocked frame rates. The game will make it easy for new players to learn while also delivering the challenge and competition 20-year Quake veterans expect.
Quake Champions is designed and built for eSports, integrating competitive features for professional and amateur levels of play. The game will be supported at tournaments and in leagues around the globe, including QuakeCon, the annual event that attracts tens of thousands of id Software fans and competitors to Dallas.
