'Megaton Rainfall' (ALL) Gets PS4 Date - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Aug. 9, 2017 @ 12:36 p.m. PDT

Megaton Rainfall is a first-person superhero game where the playground is an entire real-sized Earth, featuring procedurally generated cities and terrain that you have to protect from an alien invasion.

You control an interdimensional, indestructible super being, and your goal is to stop an alien invasion by shooting energy blasts. You can’t die… But the cities have life bars, and if you let the aliens destroy them, you lose! You also lose if you unintentionally kill too many humans, because every time you miss your target you can make a skyscraper collapse! And that’s just with your first weapon; you will acquire more superpowers throughout the game.

To turn that vision into reality, a lot of custom technology has been implemented, from the seamless, planet-scale rendering to the full destructibility of every building you see on the horizon. Not to mention the even crazier events that will take place later in the game.

Megaton Rainfall will launch on September 26th on PS4/PS VR, later on Steam.

According to Alfonso del Cerro, developer of the game, "one of our major goals in the production has been conveying this unprecedented freedom of movement". In the game you can fly, at supersonic speeds (Richard Donner's Superman style) around the entire Earth, recreated procedurally, including cities up to 200 square miles that you can cross from end to end at Mach 8 speed, in seconds.

Megaton Rainfall will be compatible with PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR. It can be completed from start to finished in VR mode, and it will infinitely increase the sense of scale and immersion but, in favour of keeping player's confort, will remove some camera effects like rolls and shakes.

The game will also use the extra power of PS4 Pro to render its landscapes in full 4K resolution (3840x2160) at 60 fps via checkerboard rendering, or to increase the supersampling quality of the VR version.

  • Highly adaptive soundtrack: Reacting to every bit of the action.
